“I can not express how grateful I am to have had Paulien as my therapist. It really has been life changing for me. I have made more progress in just 10 sessions with her then years of counselling. Her expertise, empathy and support created a safe space where I truly felt understood and empowered to make the changes I needed to. I especially appreciated the way Paulien explained things in ways I could understand - I truly felt seen by her. I also found the books and resources Paulien shared were particularly helpful between the sessions. Her sensitive, knowledgeable and confident style helped me to reach my goals whilst giving me space to explore the root causes of my challenges. I would recommend Paulien to anyone - you are in very safe hands.”
I came to Paulien last year. I specifically chose her because I was looking for a therapist specialising in schema therapy in Folkestone. I was in a bad state emotionally and mentally. I was drained from dealing with my traumas. I was sexually abused as a child, as well as other past traumatic events which really broke me down. From the first meeting with Paulien I felt calm, because she is very calming but more than that, she made me feel validated with her reassuring way. I was ready to face my demons and Paulien helped me make sense of it all during every session. Another type of therapy she offers is EMDR, that has been the most transformational tool for me to process and heal open wounds. It resolved some experiences I struggled to deal with, now I don't even think about them. Everytime I have a session with Paulien I feel better with more perspective. I never feel pressure to talk about anything, only the desire to so I can heal. She has such a genuine heart that you can feel resonating everytime I speak with her. And when you're scarred like I was and still am, it makes all the difference. Thanks Paulien, because of you, I rant to everyone to get therapy.
"Having had a career spanning two decades in international banking, I was burnt out and felt backed into a corner. Dr Gill played a huge part in equipping me with the tools to refocus, gain confidence, and have a clear vision for the future. Truly thank you."
What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of talking therapy. It focusses on how thoughts, feelings and behaviour are interconnected. It can help you manage your difficulties by changing the way you think and behave, with the aim of reducing psychological distress and enhancing psychological wellbeing. CBT has been demonstrated to help with a wide range of mental health difficulties, like anxiety, depression, OCD and trauma.
Although in CBT the emphasis is usually on the present, it can be helpful to also talk about the past to get insight in how your beliefs about yourself and other people developed. In CBT you can learn new coping strategies and skills, which you can practise in between the sessions. You will be able to explore your difficulties in a safe and non-judgmental therapeutic environment.
